Tomohisa Yamashita (山下 智久 Yamashita Tomohisa?, born April 9, 1985), also widely known as Yamapi (山P YamaP?), is a Japanese idol, actor, singer, and TV host.
Yamashita joined the Japanese talent agency Johnny & Associates as a trainee in 1996 and made his acting debut in NHK's Shonentachi in 1998. He recently starred in the spring 2015 series Flower For Algernon/Algernon ni Hanataba wo (2015) and the popular romance 2015 series From Five To Nine/5-ji Kara 9-ji Made. Other notable works include: drama Proposal Daisakusen, Kurosagi, Buzzer Beat ,Nobuta wo Produce, Code Blue series, Summer Nude and hit movie Ashita No Joe and Kinkyori Renai.
He made his official CD debut as part of boyband NEWS in 2004 under the Johnny's Entertainment label and later debuted as a solo artist in 2006 with the hit single 'Daite Senorita'. He released his first solo album in 2011 and left NEWS in the same year. His first post-NEWS single, I, Texas (愛, テキサス?) was released under Warner Music Japan in 2012. Warner Music Japan only as his label for music release, his agency and career management remain under Johnny's Entertainment and Johnny & Associates.
